There is a lot of good content on building good habits - Eg: Atomic habits
Today, I spent 30 minutes reflecting on what is causing my good habits and rituals to break. The idea is that by figuring out the reasons, I can become more aware and get my habits and rituals back on track.
- Unexpected events and un-planned tasks
- I’ve broken my schedule when something important and urgent comes up in the task list
- Trigger for a bad habit popping up
- I’ve given in to temptations when there is trigger for it
- Trigger for good habits not happening/showing up
- Unavailability of triggers for good habits gives low motivation to follow a habit
- Ill-Health
- I’ve stopped gym when i went down for 5-7 days. Starting gym again was a nightmare
- Stress
- When there is a task that causes stress, I’ve given into skipping my routine. This intern creates a bad habit of skipping routing which finally destroys the whole routine habit.
- Burnout
- When there isn’t enough reward that is created in the routine, I have given up on schedules and rituals
I was able to list only 6 points in my retrospection. What has caused you to break good habits and routine?
