6 years ago when I built Help Desk Genie, a Live chat product that helps you convert your website visitors (When I was 19). Honestly, I never understood the market and I was just cloning different features from different products to build Help Desk Genie.
I did not believe in the product and I underrated the market crazily. Truth be told, I was just making a dumb rookie mistake!
Fast forward 3 years, a few unicorns emerged in the same product space I built the Help Desk Genie in.
I never understood the market; I never understood the pain points; I never understood the opportunity. I was just another product developer building and hacking.
I regretted the missed opportunity and I gave an excuse to myself - "Now it is too late!. The market is saturated and there is no game to play"
Fast another 2 years, Something interesting happened with COVID -19. I noticed that my existing customers were still using the product that I had built earlier. I went on to strike up conversations with similar people in the industry and the users to understand why exactly they are using the product. I spent time understanding and dissecting the market, and existing players.
After a few months of striking conversations and pondering on the product, I came to realize that there is always a gap in the market which is not been discovered yet.
It was just "lazy me" who was giving an excuse that I should not spend time building / maintaining a product.
With all the wisdom of building products right, I've taken the step forward in the COVID period and have re-iterated and re-positioned the product
