A human baby turns out to be an adult in 18 years.
When try to compare babies, they are almost the same - You just can’t compare - They are all just adorable!
But, you can easily compare adults.
- You like some of them, You hate some of them
- You admire some of them, you look down on some of them
- Society labels some of them as “successful”, “Inspirational”, “Hard working”
- Society labels some of them as “Criminals”, “Drug Addicts”, etc
- Basically, you can see a lot of differentiating factors
How did the equally adorable babies turned out to be so unique individuals in 18 years?
DNA (The root Seed of Data) + External Inputs = What we are today
The Root Seed of Data = (Human as a Species DNA) + Modification of that DNA by you grand parents and theirs
External Inputs = What you eat + Your surroundings
Your surroundings = Where you live + where you study + where you work + where you socialize + your networking circle
You can think of the above as an immutable chain of equation.
Root Equation = Just born baby [State of 1st day human] = DNA + Input from your mother (What she eats + Her external surrounding) =
The only way, the “quality” of the baby can be better is by controlling what the mother eats and controlling her surroundings [State of 2nd day human] = [State of 1st day human] + What baby eats + Baby’s surroundings
[State of 3rd day human] = [State of 2nd day human] + What baby eats + Baby’s surroundings
When you extrapolate this, you can conclude like below
Who you are today is actually the “The Root Seed” + Sum of External Inputs day by day.
In other words, Who you actually are is in the core of “The Root Seed”. This is the DNA and we all humans share almost 100% of the same DNA with minor differences.
The the only reason you are different from another is actually because your sum of external inputs is different from another person’s sum of external input
What can you gather from the above thought experiment
- The only major reason that an adult is different from another adult is external inputs
- These External Inputs can be commonly categorised as below
- Food you eat
- People you engage with
- Place where you spend your most of the time
- Content you consume (Social Media / Radio / Other sources in the internet)
If you control these external inputs, you are bound to change in the same direction the external input that pushes you to be
The depth of how an external effort could affect you is bound by the previous sum of external input
Eg: Someone who has built a strong resistance to smoking (by the previous input that that had let to his state) will be less prone to picking up the habit of smoking that the ones that has not built resistance.
Here’s Another Insight
You would have already heard about Marshmallow Tests. (Do a quick read up if you haven’t heard it before you continue reading further)
The kids that had the discipline not to eat the marshmallow had one characterises.
They did not look at the marshmallow
The kids that continuously looked at the marshmallow ended up eating it.
Looking at Marshmallow is an external input to your system. With our original DNA, we are bound to have temptation and not wait. The little discipline that we learn as kids can only resist that some amount of resistance. You technically can’t Look at this marshmallow continuously and not resist the temptation forever.
When you trying to change yourself and failing, observe the external inputs that that is causing failure in your desired change. This could be a place, person, content etc
This practise will put you in a track of auto upgrades
In Sumary,
Eat Good Food and Put your self in environment of personal growth
You are bound to change for the good
